Harry Cassell
Harry Cassell is an artist from San Jose, California and was introduced to clay in sophomore year of highschool. Drawn to material exploration, Harry received a BFA in Furniture Design from Rhode Island School of Design in 2019. For three years after college, she worked as a blacksmith designing and fabricating decorative gates and railings. Returning to ceramics, Harry recently spent a two-year residency at The Steel Yard focusing on glaze testing and developing methods to paint landscapes with ^10 glazes.
Harry's work is centered around earth science, craft, storytelling, and the sacred. Her focus always returns to the Origin of Materials and how to honor the immense natural cycles that form the clay, wood, and metal that craftspeople use. Harry is currently exploring how symbols and stories can evolve over the course of multiple Iterations and material transitions. As a resident at Cobb, Harry is excited for the natural world and the unpredictability of atmospheric firing to inspire new narratives.
