Morgan Winter

Morgan Winter is a ceramic artist from Kentucky, where he earned a BFA in Ceramics with a minor in Geology from Eastern Kentucky University. His practice centers on wood firing, a process he values for both its physical intensity and the communal efforts that it frequently requires. Often working with clay gathered from natural deposits, Morgan creates both functional and sculptural works.

Morgan has spent time within several craft communities, including Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Touchstone Center for Crafts, and Cub Creek Foundation. These experiences continue to shape his appreciation for process, continuous learning, and the human connections fostered therein.

Artist Statement:

My practice is guided by philosophical thinking and a steady, meditative approach to making. While working with clay, I find a stillness within myself that I do not often achieve outside of making. As I focus on the repetitive motions of my body manipulating clay, my mind narrows and I examine myself, the world, and the ever-curious state of being human. The ceramic materials themselves hold deep fascination, offering endless possibilities for experimentation. Testing new building techniques, clay and glaze recipes, and firing methods continues to satisfy my desire for life-long learning.
