Seth Gwin

Seth Gwin is a studio potter and engineer making functional pottery and teaware. From the Pacific Northwest and currently based in Southern California, he began exploring pottery in 2021, interested in the role ceramics play in fermentation, tea, and everyday routines.

Seth’s work attempts to create forms that act as a comfortable extension of oneself for ubiquitous daily functions, while their surfaces call up memories of hiking through the woods, inspecting the bottom of a stream, or feeling the lichen on rocks. The colors and textures of Oregon’s temperate rainforests are a frequent inspiration. The tenets of comfort and familiarity have remained a throughline when experimenting with surface and texture on objects intended for routine handling.
