Plates Plates Plates with Casey Beck | August 15

Join Resident Artist, Casey Beck, in a one day hands on workshop delving into his plate making processes. Participants will learn how to design their own plate molds using just plywood and clay and execute the initial step in the mold making process. Participants will also learn how to use the molds and build plates with technical, functional and aesthetical considerations. Casey will demonstrate how to make molds for plates and his method of using them. Participants will leave the workshop with at least one plate mold and the knowledge to make more and use them!

While this workshop is only on August 15, participants in this workshop are invited to join in on a pizza party the night before this workshop and watch the salt kiln unloading on the day following.

Schedule:

  • Friday, August 14 @ 6:30 pm: Woodfired pizza party pot luck (optional).

  • Saturday, August 15:

    • 9am: Meeting, introductions, etc.

    • 10 - 11: Mold making demonstration.

    • 11 - 12:30: Designing plates and creating initial molds.

    • 12:30 - 1:30: Break for lunch.

    • 1:30 - 2:30: Mold making demonstration continues.

    • 2:30 - 3:30: Additional demonstrations: using molds.

    • 3:30 - 5pm: Additional work time if needed.

  • Sunday, August 16 @ 10 am: Salt kiln unload viewing with the September Salt Firing Workshop (optional).

Included in this workshop:

  • In depth instruction on building molds and handbuilt plates by Casey Beck.

  • Access to our tools needed to build plate molds.

  • 1 square foot of plywood. Additional plywood can be purchased at $4 per square foot. You may also bring your own plywood.

  • Two nights of camping at CMAEP, see the shop tab to purchase additional camping nights. When camping, you have access to a hot shower and bathroom.

  • 24/7 access to a fridge, microwave and electric kettle.

What to bring: Lunch, work gloves, eye protection, respirator or mask, hearing protection (optional).

Experience: Some experience with power tools and clay is recommended.

Workshop Cancellation & Refund Policy:

In the event of cancellation by the registrant up to 45 days prior to the date of the event you will receive a refund of your purchase amount minus a $100 administrative fee, or $50 administrative fee to transfer into another available workshop. No refund will be given within 45 days of the workshop.

Minimum: A minimum number of 6 participants is required to run this workshop. If the workshop is not filled by July 24, the workshop may be canceled and those registered will receive a full refund.
